How Much Did the Clubs Earn from the Champions League?
With the conclusion of the Champions League season, it’s time to review the financial rewards earned by the participating teams. Let’s take a closer look at how the prize money was distributed throughout the competition.
First off, all 36 clubs that took part in the tournament collectively received €18.62 million just for participating.
When it comes to match results, teams earned €2.1 million for each win and €700,000 for every draw. Moving into the knockout stages, the payouts increased substantially: Round of 16 participants received €11 million, quarter-finalists €12.5 million, semi-finalists €15 million, and finalists earned €18.5 million.
Additionally, the higher a team’s final standing in the Champions League phase, the bigger their overall earnings. For example, Liverpool, finishing top in their group, took home €12.5 million, while the other teams in the top eight earned roughly €2 million less.
There are also smaller income sources that add up and impact the total figures. Ultimately, the biggest earner this season was the champion Paris Saint-Germain, followed closely by their final opponents Inter Milan.
