With the conclusion of the Champions League season, it’s time to review the financial rewards earned by the participating teams. Let’s take a closer look at how the prize money was distributed throughout the competition.
First off, all 36 clubs that took part in the tournament collectively received €18.62 million just for participating.
When it comes to match results, teams earned €2.1 million for each win and €700,000 for every draw. Moving into the knockout stages, the payouts increased substantially: Round of 16 participants received €11 million, quarter-finalists €12.5 million, semi-finalists €15 million, and finalists earned €18.5 million.
Additionally, the higher a team’s final standing in the Champions League phase, the bigger their overall earnings. For example, Liverpool, finishing top in their group, took home €12.5 million, while the other teams in the top eight earned roughly €2 million less.
There are also smaller income sources that add up and impact the total figures. Ultimately, the biggest earner this season was the champion Paris Saint-Germain, followed closely by their final opponents Inter Milan. The other two semi-finalists, Barcelona and Arsenal, also made significant earnings.
